Painting two little goldfinches...

Here is a short time lapse video I made last week and posted on Instagram. The whole painting process for these two pendants, in real time, took about four hours. That included setting up the camera, mixing the paint and preparing my easel.

I love painting goldfinches- they look so cheery. Rendering that vibrant yellow is fun, too. I go back and forth numerous times, applying opaque lights then transparent darks and color glazes. The gratifying last step is applying the white highlights to the beak, feathers and twinkle in the eye!
